First Drive – BMW M5

BMW M5

What is it?
Labelled the world’s fastest four-door and the best-handling saloon, the M5 is a high-performance version of the regular BMW 5 series.

First impression of the new M5
The new M5 looks very like a regular 5-Series until you spot the four exhausts, a small spoiler and the deeper front bumpers. Essentially it’s a luxury 5 series saloon that houses incredible power but still manages to be sufficiently understated that it could actually transport the family with minimum fuss and in maximum comfort

What about the interior?
The interior of the M5 is a more luxurious version of the regular 5-Series. The M sports seats are upholstered in Merino leather, and the overall cabin has a premium feel that befits its price.

Inside the M5

And on the road?

M5 and the city: It is supremely balanced and incredibly composed given the monster engine under the bonnet.
M5 and the open road: On the open road no matter how much power you apply you are only scratching the surface of what this car is capable of. This is a brutally fast car that just begs to be taken on a track.

How Much?
With little change from 135k the eye watering annual road tax bill of2,258 seems almost small by comparison

How Safe?
The M5 shares the 5 star EuroNCAP rating of the 5 series and packs every safety gadget BMW has to offer into the mix

What are my choices?
There is only one version to choose from, the fully loaded one!

3 words to describe the M5
Hedonistic, Enthralling, Fast
