We talk cars with Mairéad Ronan a producer with Today FM and a TV presenter.

Your current car – Love at first sight or just a means to get from A to B? My current car is a Renault Captur, she’s like a best friend, I love her.

What does it say about you– It says, I’m sporty, fun, but always reliable!

What’s under the bonnet? My Captur has a 1.5 diesel engine so it is great, especially for long distance travel. I forget I’m driving a diesel as even though it’s a powerful car, the steering is light and there’s no big surge when changing gears. It’s brilliant on fuel also, I can never remember when I’ve filled up as a full tank lasts so long!

Petrol head or Sunday driver? I’m a Sunday driver. I start work at 6 am so my journey to work at 5.40 am is usually  just me and some road cleaners. I like taking my time for those 20 minutes each day.

What was your first car? A 1995 navy blue  Ford Fiesta, it was a great little car but I could never park her, ever.

Dream drive in dream location? I recently drove from LA to Vegas.  I’ll admit I was nervous for the first half hour but after that I loved it but dream location is The Californian coastal drive

Do you have a favourite car gadget? I love to have a  reversing camera (how did I ever reverse without it) and built in sat nav and removable wipeable seat covers, it is so handy to be able to whip them off and throw them into the washing machine, something I image I will be doing regularly when the new baby arrives!

Who taught you to drive? My poor dad tried and failed so I leaned from the Irish School of motoring …eventually.

Whom do you most admire in your profession? I’m lucky in saying that I’ve  worked with some of the people I most admire in broadcasting (Ian Dempsey and Ray D’Arcy) But someone who I’ve always enjoyed and admired is Marian Finucane,  definitely  a  hero of mine.

What was your best career decision to date? Saying yes to everything that was asked of me in the early days in Today FM… (Gosh that sounds rude) But even when I’d done  a full shift and was exhausted someone could ask me to post 15 prizes and I’d just say “sure no problem”.  I had decided to be like this in the early days and it definitely paid off.

What is on your car stereo right now? Today FM – always ! or else I play Beyonce’s Lemonade album through my blue tooth

One item you couldn’t live without?  Most people say their iphone but I couldn’t live without a bra. Keeps the girls in place every day for me.

How do you relax? Currently pregnant so I like to put the feet up , cup of strong tea and a mint aero

Passenger you’d most like on a long journey? Either my husband Louis  or Roger Federer – I’ve been in love with him for years

Passenger you’d least like? Anne Hathaway – I can’t explain it. She irritates me like a scratchy woolly jumper.
