Mercedes-Benz has just launched an all-new C-Class Saloon – the German carmaker’s biggest seller worldwide.
What is it? Aimed squarely at the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 the New C-Class promises to be cheaper to run, better to drive and more comfortable.
First impressions of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class? From which ever angle you view it the C-Class is a very chic car. All the familiar Mercedes design cues are present and this baby saloon of the family is like a miniature S-Class.
What about the interior? Like a day at an exclusive spa, the C-Class is the perfect place to escape the daily grind. Inside it is classy, luxurious and extremely comfortable. It is also bigger than the previous model with plenty of space front and back.
And on the road? At the launch we had an opportunity to drive the C220 2.0-litre 170bhp BlueTEC Avantgarde automatic On the road there isn’t so much as a whisper of road noise inside and it is smooth with plenty of oomph for effortlessly overtaking. Regardless of road surface it is composed and soaks up bumps, but it’s also really good if you decide to go via the twisty back roads.
How Much? Prices for the new C-Class start from €37,750 for petrol models and €37,950 for diesels.
How Safe? Smaller certainly doesn’t mean less safe to Mercedes Benz and the new C Class has a host of safety features normally found on the larger E-and S-Class models including Attention Assist, a drowsiness detection system and Collision Prevention Assist. Active parking, adaptive head beam, traffic sign and wrong way alert systems and a 360-degree camera are also available. The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class also features pelvis bags, a newly developed window bag, side bags and a driver’s knee bag.
What about my options? Three design and equipment lines are offered – an Avantgarde version with grille-inset star aimed at younger buyers; an Exclusive version with a distinctive bonnet-mounted standing star aimed at the more conventional buyer; and an AMG line aimed at the sporty buyer.
3 words to describe the Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Refined; Elegant; Safe
