Get the best deal on your new car

To help you navigate the best deal for you on your new car here is our pick of the best 161 offers writes Geraldine Herbert

There is nothing like the lure of a new registration plate and a last minute deal to tempt motorists into showrooms and for potential buyers there are a host of great deals around at the moment but you have to be fast as many expire on January 31st.

If you are trading in an older car you would be well advised to consider one of the many scrappage schemes on offer.  Hyundai are offering a bonus of up to €4,000 as part of their 161 promotion. Book a new 161 Hyundai before January 31st and you can avail of either a five years free service bonus or a scrappage bonus of up to €4000. This bonus applies to five passenger models, the i10, i20, i30, ix20 and the Tucson.

If you interested in buying a commercial vehicle, the Nissan scrappage scheme is available for both passenger and commercial vehicles.  Trade in your old car or van and you’ll get a guaranteed minimum of €4,000 towards a new Nissan, no matter how old your car or van is.

Opel are offering a 50:50 Finance deal, you pay half now, and half in July 2017. If you order before 31st January you can also avail of up to €4,500 scrappage allowance and three years free servicing.

The Peugeot Trade-In-Ability promotion continues up to the end of the month and they are offering up to €4,500 scrappage allowance on selected models across the Peugeot passenger car range. Customers with cars that don’t qualify for scrappage may be eligible for a €750 Peugeot customer reward. They also benefit from a five year extended warranty on all passenger car models.

Toyota is offering buyers a choice of a trade-in allowance of up to €3,000 or three years free servicing on all of their passenger cars registered before January 31st 2016. There are also free technology, style and safety packs across the Toyota range. In terms of finance they are offering APR rates of 3.9pc on selected models across the range.

Remember in all cases terms and conditions do exist so read the small print but generally to qualify for a swappage scheme your car must be registered in the Republic of Ireland for at least six months, must have valid NCT/DOE and road tax certificates and be insured for use on the road for at least three months in the 18 months prior to trade-in.

If you are considering buying on a Personal Contract Plan (PCPs) there are some tempting 0pc finance offers available.  The French car maker Citroen plans to lure potential 161 buyers into its showrooms with 0pc apr PCP finance offered on the C4, C4 Cactus, C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso.

From now until January 31st Skoda is offering 0pc finance and SmartLink free on selected models in its range and motorists who order a 161 Leon or new Ibiza at their local SEAT dealership can avail of 0pc on a PCP.

Running at Ford Dealerships across the country until January 31 is the Ford Real Deal event featuring reductions on a host of models.  The top of the range Kuga Titanium now comes  with leather trim; SYNC with 8” touch screen; hands-free tailgate; free Titanium upgrade pack for a price of €28,595 which represents a reduction of €4,000.  Ford Fiesta has been reduced by up to €3,000 off the Zetec and Titanium spec models, priced from €13,800 and €15,430 respectively and all with a 5 year warranty. There is €4,000 off the top of the range Focus Titanium priced from €21,420 also with a 5 year warranty. Ford are offering their Mondeo with up to €2,000 off the Mondeo Zetec with a free upgrade ‘appearance pack’ priced from €27,730 and finally the all new Ford C-MAX with up to €3,000 off the top of the range Titanium model including a free parking pack with powerfold mirrors, rear parking sensors and Ford SYNC with 8” touch screen, priced from €26,500.

There are also plenty of other offers to  lure buyers with more than just a price tag. Suzuki is running a 5,000 Kms Free Fuel offer until the end of January. This offer applies to customers who place a deposit on the Celerio, Swift and S-Cross models. They will also receive 12 months free road tax.  Pay a deposit on a new Vitara before 31st January and receive 6 months road tax. PCP and HP Finance packages are available across the Suzuki range with the Celerio from €115 per month. Swift from €139 per month and S-Cross from €199 per month.
