Want a hipster car to match your hipster furniture? We investigate the BoConcept Smart.
The cabin of your car is a place you spend a lot of time in. It needs to be comfortable and functional just like your living room.
Smart has taken this idea one step further and teamed up with BoConcept, the contemporary designer furniture maker, and made a special edition of the tiny two-seater city car.
It might seem like an odd collaboration at first but it’s actually a match made in heaven. The Danish urban interior design specialist does not make furniture for 1970s bungalows or crumbling period properties. They make furniture for urbanites to use to fit out their swanky apartments or their glass box extensions glued to red brick Victorian town houses.
The colourful, customisable Smart is the car for cool urbanites and it loves a good makeover too. Since the car’s launch in 1998 it has had many a facelift from luxury designers like Hermés to German tuning company Brabus. The Smart has always been a bit of a trendsetter with its innovative, funky design and low CO2 emissions.
According to Mercedes-Benz who produce the Smart, the BoConcept version is all about contemporary design and style for urban living. In other words they want you to know that this is a damn cool car for an urban dweller to be seen in.
The BoConcept Smart has got design touches that reference the latest home interior trends like matt surfaces, distinctive colours and bold material combinations. For the exterior of the car, that translates to matt white body panels, lemon yellow wing mirrors and accents on the alloy wheels and BoConcept logos so everyone will know your hipster credentials.
Inside, there are brown leather-look seats with grey quilted fabric inlays and lemon yellow double stitching, a design synonymous with BoConcept style. The dashboard, door panels and steering wheel get the same colour scheme.
This is surely a car that a hipster will appreciate. If the €14,000 price tag for the coupé and €16,000 price for the cabrio seems a bit much for Smart and BoConcept fans, then there is always the furniture range jointly designed between Smart and BoConcept to choose from!
