First Drive: Jaguar F-Type 4-cyl

Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar has unveiled a feisty younger brother to the V8 F-Type writes Geraldine Herbert

What is it? You no longer need to splash your cash on the top-of-the-range 5.0 litre V8 or 3.0 litre V6 as a  new greener and crucially cheaper turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine has joined the F-Type line up.

First impressions of the new Jaguar F-type?  Stylish, sassy, sexy, this seductive two seater is simply one of the most stunning looking cars. Subtle changes to the 2017 car include brand new led headlamps and redesigned bumpers.

What about the interior?  Slip into the driver’s seat of the F-Type and you’ll instantly feel like a star. Everything’s geared towards making you feel glamorous, right down to the sports steering wheel and sumptuous seats. The F-Type also gets the latest touch pro infotainment system. Luggage space at 310 litres means you won’t struggle to swallow the spoils from a day’s worth of shopping.

Engine choice? The new 296hp 2.0 petrol engine is the most powerful four  cylinder ever in a production Jaguar.

Jaguar F-type on road?  It is also the lightest F-Type ever and can accelerate from 0-100 in only 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h. On the road it feels light, agile and precise and sounds incredible with an engine growl that is sure to turn heads and  the steering is incredibly accurate, just point it in the direction you want to go and off it shoots.

How much? While it’s not cheap at €65,000 when you consider its €30,000 cheaper than its more potent brother the new F-Type is a steal plus fuel economy is a decent 7.2 litres/100km or 39.2mpg and CO2 emissions are 163g/km.

How safe? The F-Type comes equipped with a full array of safety features to lessen the risk of accidents and to protect occupants and other road uses. New technologies including Autonomous Emergency braking, Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Mointor.

What are my options? There is also the range topping  F-Type with its 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol producing 495hp or a 3.0 litre with 380 hp.

3 words to describe the Jaguar F-type?  Muscular; Feisty: Fabulous
