Mags Durand O’Connor’s First Car….

Not exactly what Bobo looked like but a reminder all the same

Not exactly what Bobo looked like but a reminder all the same

What was your first car and why did you buy it? My first car was a Ford Fiesta, my dad gave it to me for a birthday present when I learned to drive at 24. Her name was Bobo

What did you pay for it? It was a present

How did it change your life? Bobo completely changed my life because she gave me a freedom I hadn’t had before, I could go anywhere I liked. I was a student at the time and it opened up the world to me and allowed me to visit my college friends in far flung counties. I loved the car like a person!! When I went on holiday my dad surprised me by spraying it my favourite colour purple and putting body mod on it – it had silver alloy wheels, a spoiler, go faster stripes and a personalised reg with Bobo on it.

What was the longest trip you ever took in the car? I used to try to venture out further every weekend, the furthest I got was Belfast. The car was old and used to rattle on motorways so I was a fine sight passing people shaking like a mad yoke!!!

What was your best memory or most memorable moment in the car? The moment I saw that Dad had done the car up – I was shaking and crying I was so excited !

What was your worst memory associated with the car? The engine fell out of it – the part of the chassis that held the engine up collapsed – I was devestated

How long did you keep your first car? 2 years until the engine collapsed out of it !
