Citroën has taken the roof off the Cactus and transformed it into a beach buggy, we find out more about the Cactus M writes Geraldine Herbert

  • According to Citroën the overall design of the cabin is suppose to resemble the hull of a boat and the surf-style seats are made from a waterproof neoprene fabric designed to resemble wetsuits
  • Further protection from the rain is provided by an inflatable top.
  • The Cactus M is inspired by the 1968 Citroën Méhari, a soft-top off-roading truck that was a huge cult hit in the 1970s and ’80s
  • You can’t get much more beach-friendly than the Cactus M there is even drainage outlets integrated in the foot wells so the entire cabin can be hosed down.

  • If you fancy a night on the beach the rear seat can become an extension of the boot to create a ‘couchette’ and the roof that can be made into a tent.
  • With a 108bhp 1.2 litre petrol engine under the bonnet If you are looking for power and vroom the Cactus M may not be the one from you
  • In terms of size it shares the same length and height with the standard Cactus but it is fractionally wider at 1.77 metres
  • Four drive settings allow you to choose grip control depending on the surface you are travelling on.
  • Citroën insists the Cactus M is simply a concept for now but it will be on show at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
