We profile 12 year old Órla Lynch making her name in the competitive world of Motocross
At just 12 years old Órla Lynch has contested 2 Motocross championships, the Southern Centre which cover the 26 counties and the Irish which covers the 32 counties. Travelling the length and breath of Ireland the Southern Centre consisted of 6 rounds which took place in Dundalk, Birdhill, Castlelyons, Doon, Derryarkin and Clonroche. The Irish championship also had 6 rounds which were held in Vernon Mount, Tandagree, Dessertmartin, Kilcurry, Letterkenny and Gormanston.
Despite the fact that it was Órla’s first time racing at some of these tracks and conditions varied vastly from track to track and from weekend to weekend her hard work paid off when Órla made history by becoming the first girl to ever win a Southern Centre Championship. She also finished 5th in the Irish Championship.
Órla was presented with 3 cups at the motorcycling union of Ireland in Birr, Co. Offly which included the perpetual Daniel Sheridan Memorial cup. The youngster from Macroom, Co. Cork was also one of 16 youth riders who spent 3 days in Spain in February training at the Red Sands MX track. She has now moved up to the next grade which is the Big Wheel 85cc Class and hopes to contest both championships again in 2018.
