Hosting a party?
If you are planning a New Year’s eve party make sure to provide plenty of food to keep your guests from drinking on an empty stomach and avoid salty snacks that encourage people to drink more.
Ensure there is a plentiful supply of non-alcoholic drinks for designated drivers and others who prefer not to drink alcohol.
Have the number of a taxi service on hand for those who need a lift and for those guests who have had too much to drink invite them to stay over.
If you drink, don’t drive. Don’t try and calculate whether or not you have consumed enough to tip you over the drink-drive limit – it’s almost impossible to get right so leave the car at home.
If you are involved in a road accident you will be breathalysed even if it wasn’t your fault – don’t risk it, or somebody else’s mistake could become your problem.
Remember the next morning you may need to organise alternative travel plans as a drinking session the night before can easily put you over the limit.
Plan their journey home before you go out. Taxis are likely to be hard to find and walking home is not always a wise or safe option.
Stick with friends, stay safe and have a good time.
