Suzanne Keane rounds up the latest in Child Car Seats
Do you know a family in need? The wonderful team at rearfacing.ie are doing their bit to give back this Christmas and are looking for nominations for families that would benefit from a free safe child seat. To nominate a family that you feel would benefit from this send an email to info@rearfacing.ie with the age of the child, their location and while you feel they should be nominated.
All nominations are confidential and if the family you suggest are chosen rearfacing.ie will arrange to have their new car seat delivered before Christmas – so the sooner you enter the better!

Silver Cross have released the new Motion All Size 360 i-size. This seat is the only R129 approved rotating seat for all stages and will allow rear facing up to 18.5kg when it can then be switched to high back booster mode using your car’s own seat belt. Ideal for children on the lower centiles this seat comes with a removable newborn insert, has 8 headrest positions and 3 recline positions. The recommended retail price of this Silver Cross Motion All Size 360 i-size is €449.99.
It may not be the first child seat with its own airbags but the Cybex Anoris T i-size is the first with full body airbags. The Anoris T is a forward-facing seat and Cybex claim that it offers 50% more protection than conventional forward-facing seats. The airbag is activated in milliseconds, opening to spread to a C-shape in front of the child. The full body airbag provides approximately 50% more protection in the event of a frontal collision than traditional forward-facing child seats with a harness system.
They also claim that it is “at least as safe” as rear-facing seats. However, it has a pricetag more than twice that of the most popular rear facing seat (£559.95 – no euro price confirmed as yet) so I’ll hold off on recommending this child seat until it has also managed to gain the coveted Swedish Plus Test Approval. The Anoris T is suitable for children from 76cm up to 115cm.
The RSA Check It Fits service is still offering free virtual appointments and there are time slots available on the 15th and 16th of December so have your seats checked out before heading off on your Christmas holidays – you can book a free appointment here.
