\"\"<\/a>As snow continues to fall getting out and about by car has become a lot trickier than usual writes Geraldine Herbert<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

1) Met \u00c9ireann has issued five weather warnings, two of which are Red Status – the highest alert meaning extremely dangerous conditions.
\n2) Driving in Snow will challenge even the most experienced driver so only take to the roads if completely necessary.
\n3) Remember even if the roads are gritted they are still likely to be slippery so slow down.
\n4) Temperatures are set to plummet tonight so be very careful of black ice tomorrow,\u00a0 essentially a thin layer of ice this is especially\u00a0 likely in sheltered areas on the roads.
\n5) Ensure you have some essentials in your car if you do need to travel such as a reflective jacket, a shovel, a torch, a blanket, first aid kit and some water.
\n6) When on the road ensure you keep your distance and significantly reduce your speed.
\n7) If you do skid try not to panic, the best advice is simply take your foot off the accelerator, stay off the brake and simply point your steering wheel in the direction you want to travel.
\n8) From 11pm tonight until 3pm Friday,\u00a0 Met Eireann are warning that being out in the blizzard-like conditions could be life-threatening so stay at home
\n9) Regardless of the colour of the weather alert \u2013 Red, Orange etc – your car insurance is valid but\u00a0 if you drive in\u00a0 bad weather you must exercise caution,\u00a0 unnecessary risk taking – like driving up the mountains to test your snow driving skills – could be considered ‘contributory negligence’ by your insurance company so avoid any unnecessary journeys.<\/p>\n
