{"id":21820,"date":"2020-06-08T14:53:03","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T13:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/?p=21820"},"modified":"2020-06-08T14:55:40","modified_gmt":"2020-06-08T13:55:40","slug":"ten-things-to-know-about-car-sales-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/ten-things-to-know-about-car-sales-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten things to know about Car Sales this year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16293\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"566\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car.jpg 850w, http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car-768x511.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car-321x214.jpg 321w, http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/new_car-140x94.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/a>The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today published Vehicle Licensing figures for May 2020.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The number of new cars licensed for the first time in May 2020 was 1,490 compared to 9,126 in May 2019, a drop of 83.7%.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0In the first five months of 2020, almost 1 in 5 new cars licensed was a hybrid or electric.<\/li>\n<li>From January to May 2020 there was a drop of 34.6% in the number of cars registered to 51,904 compared with 79,350 for the same period in 2019.<\/li>\n<li>In the first five months of 2020, 43.8% of all new private cars licensed were diesel, compared with 47.5% in the same period for 2019.<\/li>\n<li>The number of used (imported) private cars licensed fell by 47.7% compared with the same period in 2019.<\/li>\n<li>In 2020 to date, 0.2% of imported private cars licensed were less than one year old (vehicles previously registered abroad in 2020) while 1,411 (6.2%) were ten years or older<\/li>\n<li>There were 20,593 new diesel private cars licensed in the first five months of 2020, compared with 35,032 in the same period in 2019.<\/li>\n<li>For used (imported) diesel private cars, the total licensed was 15,499 in the first five months of 2020. This compares with 31,680 in the same period last year.<\/li>\n<li>The number of new electric cars licensed from January 2020 &#8211; May 2020 (7132) is 3.3% higher than the corresponding period in 2019 (6903<\/li>\n<li>Volkswagen (197) was the most popular make of new private car licensed followed by BMW (126), Hyundai (113), Ford (99) and Skoda (97).
