New car sales show a substantial increase in EVs and Plug-In Electric Hybrids, 811 EVs and 301 plug-ins sold in the month of January representing a combined market share of 3.4%<\/p><\/div>\n

It’s the end of the road for some Electric Car grants writes Geraldine Herbert<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

From July 1st 2021, the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI)\u00a0 grant for Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) will be reduced from \u20ac5,000 to \u20ac2,500. and the grant for both EVs and PHEVs will only apply to cars under \u20ac60,000.<\/p>\n

The following EV supports and grants will remain in place:<\/p>\n

\n

\u2022 Home Charger Grant Scheme provides support towards the full cost of installation of a home charger up to a maximum of \u20ac600;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
\n

\u2022 Public Charge Point Scheme provides a grant of up to \u20ac5000 to local authorities to support the development of on-street public chargers;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
\n

\u2022 VRT relief of up to \u20ac5,000 for the purchase of BEVs and up to \u20ac2,500 for PHEVs on cars under \u20ac60,000;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
\n

\u2022 Benefit-in-Kind tax relief for battery electric vehicles;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
\n

\u2022 grants of up to \u20ac12,500 to support the purchase of electric vehicles in the taxi\/hackney\/limousine sector<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
\n

\u2022 Under Budget 2021, \u20ac15 million secured by the Department of Transport to support taxi and hackney drivers in scrapping their older vehicles and replacing them with electric alternatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 Accelerated Capital Allowances for businesses;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u2022 Low rate of annual motor tax;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u2022 Tolling reductions of 50% for battery electric vehicles and 25% for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
