What is it?\u00a0<\/strong>Peugeot are planning to move more upmarket with their new 508 and it is being launched with new equipment, a new exterior and interior design and their latest economical engines \u2013 the 508 will also come with a 5 year extended warranty in Ireland.<\/p>\n

First impressions of the Peugeot 508?<\/strong>\u00a0For 2015 the 508 is much more assertive and distinctive. There\u2019s a new headlamp design up front with LED daytime lamps as standard and the rear lights have been redesigned to give the effect of lion claws in keeping with the Peugeot branding.<\/p>\n

What about the interior?\u00a0<\/strong>There\u2019s a new 7\u201d touchscreen inside as standard and the model we drove had heated seats \u2013 ideal on a frosty morning in Galway! Visibility inside the cabin is great and it does feel comfortable \u2013 however even with the driver\u2019s seat in its lowest position I did feel like I was sitting up too high!<\/p>\n

And behind the wheel?\u00a0<\/strong>We drove the 2.0L diesel model which has 140bhp and a 6 speed automatic gearbox. It produces 115g CO2\/km so road tax will set you back just \u20ac200\/annum.<\/p>\n

508 in town: <\/strong>Despite its size the 508 doesn\u2019t feel big and is easy to manoeuvre. The model we tested had a reversing camera so no space was too tight for parking!<\/p>\n

508 on the open road:\u00a0<\/strong>At the launch we had an\u00a0opportunity to take the\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0508 down winding narrow country roads near Barna and we were\u00a0pleasantly surprised by the comfort inside despite the enormous potholes and bumps. Torque delivery is also great and evenly distributed \u2013 it never felt underpowered even when I got back out onto the open road.<\/p>\n

How Much?<\/strong>\u00a0The \u00a0entry level \u201cAccess\u201d trim starts at \u20ac26,750 for a 1.6 Hdi 115bhp 6 speed and the SW starts at \u20ac29.290. Opt for a\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0PCP \u00a0and the 508 starts at \u20ac270\u00a0per\u00a0month.<\/p>\n

What about my options:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Overall the 508 comes very well equipped in comparison to rivals and is available as a saloon or estate. There will be 3 trim levels along with a special order GT model. The basic \u201cAccess\u201d comes with Bluetooth & USB connectivity, Air Conditioning, Cruise Control and 16\u201d Alloys. Going up to the \u201cActive\u201d spec will get you a rear parking aid, Sat Nav, multi-function steering wheel and the SW comes with a panoramic glass roof. Upgrade to the top of the range \u201cAllure\u201d trim for goodies such as\u00a0blind spot monitoring, a reversing camera and keyless \u201copen & go\u201d and \u00a0a full leather interior.<\/p>\n
