The new Sorento<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is proof that Kia <\/em><\/strong>takes refinement very seriously with a high quality <\/em><\/strong>interior and smart styling writes Geraldine Herbert<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

What is it?<\/strong> \u00a0The seven-seat SUV is one of the most popular family car choices on the road and \u00a0Kia\u2019s third generation seven seat Sorento is their most refined to date.<\/p>\n

Who is it aimed at? <\/strong>You don\u2019t have to spend all your spare time contemplating fordable rivers, scalable peaks and crossable tundras to want to look the part! The new Sorento is a capable, \u00a0comfortable \u00a0and a very stylish family car, that just happens to be just as competent off road.<\/p>\n

Styling?<\/strong> Longer and lower than before the new Sorento may carry over much from the last version but this time Kia\u00a0has given it a look that is both sophisticated\u00a0and\u00a0hard wearing.<\/p>\n

\"Inside<\/a>

Inside it is more stylish with higher quality materials<\/p><\/div>\n

Under the Bonnet?<\/strong> The 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine\u00a0 is good for strength, speed and fuel economy and the clever four-wheel drive system, that comes as standard, \u00a0shifts power to different wheels depending on the conditions.<\/p>\n

What about inside?<\/strong> It’s the\u00a0interior\u00a0quality that sets it apart from the previous version with soft touch materials and an excellent quality feel throughout. \u00a0It\u2019s easy to get comfy in the driver\u2019s seat and there is plenty of room front and back.<\/p>\n

On the Road?<\/strong> On the motorway it is impressively quiet but the\u00a0engine\u00a0can get a little raucous under hard acceleration. It soaks out most lumps and speed bumps with a firm but comfortable ride and it handles reasonably well; while it is not by any means sporty to drive it is stable at speed and corners without rolling too much.<\/p>\n

And Safety?<\/strong>\u00a0There is no reason to fret about safety as the Kia Sorento has been awarded the maximum five-star crash safety rating by Euro NCAP. It scored highly in all four areas \u00a0( Adult , Child , Pedestrian \u00a0and Safety Assist and comes equipped with a \u00a0wealth of safety technologies.<\/p>\n

What about fuel economy? <\/strong>Kia has worked hard to keep fuel consumption and emissions down in the new model and the results are impressive. \u00a0Manual models have combined economy of 5.7 litres per 100 (49.5mpg) \u00a0with CO2<\/sub> emissions of only 149g\/km, while the corresponding figures for the automatic are 6.5 litres per 100 (43.4mpg) and 172g\/km.<\/p>\n

Options? <\/strong>If five seats is all you need then the entry level \u00a0EX Sorento is the one to choose at \u20ac38,995. However, the one most likely to be the best seller of the range is the Platinum version with seven seats at \u20ac43,995. \u00a0It\u2019s generously equipped for the price trumping many rivals with 17\u201d alloys, rear privacy glass ,super vision instrument cluster and 7\u201d Sat Nav with reversing camera all as standard. Plump for the Platinum version and you get extras such as panoramic sunroof, Xenon lights, \u00a0leather and heated (front and 2nd<\/sup> row\u00a0 rear ) seats, heated steering wheel, 8 way power adjustable driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>

The boot can now swallow up to 600 litres<\/p><\/div>\n

Will it break the bank? \u00a0<\/strong>You shouldn’t have to worry about breaking down or it needing costly repairs, as Kia is known to build reliable cars backed by their reassuring seven year \u00a0warranty.<\/p>\n

Verdict?<\/strong> The new\u00a0Sorento strikes a really good balance between comfort, functionality and style. It\u2019s easy to drive and very well equipped plus when you factor in \u00a0Kia’s\u00a0 seven-year warranty it should \u00a0be very hard to overlook it.<\/p>\n
