{"id":13197,"date":"2015-10-19T00:22:41","date_gmt":"2015-10-18T23:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/?p=13197"},"modified":"2015-10-26T15:09:51","modified_gmt":"2015-10-26T14:09:51","slug":"volvo-xc90-wins-2015-womens-world-car-of-the-year-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/volvo-xc90-wins-2015-womens-world-car-of-the-year-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Volvo XC90 is the 2015 Women\u2019s World Car of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xc90_wfw_main.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13199\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xc90_wfw_main.jpg\" alt=\"xc90_wfw_main\" width=\"450\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xc90_wfw_main.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/xc90_wfw_main-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>The new Volvo XC90 is the winner of \u00a0the Women\u2019s World Car of the Year 2015 writes Geraldine Herbert<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Judging has just been completed in the 2015 Women\u2019s World Car of the Year awards and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/volvo-xc90\/\">Volvo XC90<\/a> has captured the top prize.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/volvo-xc90\/\">XC90<\/a> won the SUV-Crossover category and in the second round of voting emerged as the overall winner as well.<\/p>\n<p>The second-generation mid-sized crossover SUV was launched in August, 2014, and marked the beginning of a new chapter in Volvo\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>The XC90 was three years in the making and part of a significant investment programme from the company known world-wide for safety and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>President and CEO of Volvo Car Group, H\u00e5kan Samuelsson, said at the time, that the company was not just launching a car, but re-launching the Volvo brand.<\/p>\n<p>In winning the Supreme Trophy in Women\u2019s World Car of the Year the Volvo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/volvo-xc90\/\">XC90<\/a> has been given a stamp of approval from the only motor vehicle award organisation in the world voted entirely by women. Currently there are 20\u00a0judges on the panel from 14 different countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s World car of the year was founded in response to the lack of representation, of women, on both the jury for the European Car of the Year and the World Car of the year.\u00a0 There are currently 2 women on the European jury of 58 \u00a0and only 3 of 72 on the World Car jury.<\/p>\n<p>Judges are not voting for \u201ca woman\u2019s car\u201d.\u00a0 Rather, they vote as motoring journalists and assess cars accordingly from experience and knowledge.\u00a0 They do, however, take into account what they think women would like to buy \u2013 an important distinction. Indeed, this difference is another factor contributing to the unique value of Women\u2019s World Car of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the Volvo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/volvo-xc90\/\">XC90<\/a>\u00a0seucuring\u00a0the major prize in Women\u2019s World Car of the Year, Volvo Cars President &amp; CEO H\u00e5kan Samuelsson, said he is \u201cdelighted\u201d about the award.\u00a0\u201cWith the XC90, Volvo Cars begun a relaunch of its brand. This award is a testament that we have come a long way already and that we have succeeded in making the XC90 attractive for a very important audience, so we are of course both honoured and
