What is it?\u00a0<\/strong>There may be a new Tiguan on the way but this could be a good time to pick up a deal on an older model.<\/p>\n

Who is it aimed at?\u00a0<\/strong>The Tiguan is designed to meet the needs of a busy family combining space and practicality with comfort \u2013 The Edition R spec ads some sporty touches to the standard Tiguan.<\/p>\n

Styling?<\/strong>\u00a0The Edition R Tiguan comes with 18\u201d alloys, sports suspension, special front and rear bumpers and a roof spoiler and really looks the part. The panoramic glass sunroof finishes off the look and can be adjusted into a number of positions for the ideal amount of ventilation.<\/p>\n

Under the Bonnet?<\/strong>\u00a0Our car was powered by a 2.0 diesel engine with 110bhp.Alternatively there is a 2.0L 150bhp diesel engine available in both 2wd and 4 motion.<\/p>\n

What about inside?\u00a0<\/strong>The Edition R leather seats are extremely comfortable and the R headrest stitching adds to the sporty feel. The smooth grey finish around the vents and touchscreen is a really great touch and the leather steering wheel feels firm and controls are ideally positioned.<\/p>\n

On the Road?\u00a0<\/strong>The Edition R Tiguan may look sporty but on the road the 110bhp engine feels very underpowered. On the motorway it\u2019s smooth and comfortable and it handles quite well on winding roads but would really benefit from a few extra bhp. Around town the park assist comes in handy and at night time the Xenon headlights provided excellent vision.<\/p>\n

And Safety?\u00a0<\/strong>Standard safety equipment includes 2 ISOfix points, Seat belt warning, tyre pressure monitor and airbags all round. The VW Tiguan has a 5 star Euro NCAP rating.<\/p>\n

Options?\u00a0<\/strong>There are 3 trim levels available with cruise control, 5\u201d touchscreen, Bluetooth, daytime running lights, climate control (dual zone) and start stop as standard. The range starts with Life & Leisure while Sport and Style will upgrade you to leather upholstery, heated front seats, 18\u201d alloys, 6.5\u201d touchscreen and auto headlights. The range topping Edition R comes with R-Line embroidery, stainless steel pedals, black roof lining and sports suspension.<\/p>\n

Economy?<\/strong>\u00a0The Tiguan starts from \u20ac30,585 OTR and the Edition R test car costs \u20ac34,385 OTR. Road tax is \u20ac270 and the 110bhp diesel consumes 5.0l\/100km.<\/p>\n

Verdict?\u00a0<\/strong>This sporty Edition R version of the Tiguan may look and feel the part but the 110bhp engine is disappointing. However, if you\u2019re in the market for a bargain it may be a good time to be on the lookout for an \u201cold\u201d Tiguan.<\/p>\n
