Judges in Women’s World Car of the Year present in Sweden for Volvo’s unique event<\/p><\/div>\n

The Women’s World Car of the Year trophy is presented to Volvo in Sweden<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

At a unique event in Volvo\u2019s history, Mr. H\u00e5kan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car Group, last week gave a clear indication that Volvo\u2019s future depended on forward thinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur design concepts are just one aspect of where we are headed,\u201d he said. \u201cAnother indication is that we are here today to acknowledge a very important segment of our customer base.\u201d<\/p>\n

Samuelsson was referring to receiving the prestigious Women’s World Car of the Year award for the Volvo XC90. The presentation took place at Volvo Group headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 20th May, 2016.<\/p>\n

Seven of the twenty-two women jurors were in attendance. Countries they represented are the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Turkey and the USA.<\/p>\n

Sandy Myhre, New Zealand, presented the trophy for the supreme award \u2013 a hand-carved wooden trophy depicting a curled fern frond known in her country as the koru<\/em>.\u00a0 The sculptor was Hugh McKechnie from Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Sue Baker, UK, presented Volvo with a certificate acknowledging the XC90 winning the supreme trophy.<\/p>\n

LouAnn Hammond, USA, presented the certificate for the XC90 winning the SUV-Crossover category and surprised Mr. Samuelsson with a signed bottle of her hometown California wine, grown and produced personally by race car driver and Vintner Scott Pruett.<\/p>\n

Volvo created an exclusive event for the visiting jury members that\u00a0 included a look at Volvo Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), two new Concept Cars, an insight into Volvo\u2019s plans for the new product, colour, design, safety and child safety in the C Premium Segment.<\/p>\n

The women motoring writers also had the opportunity to discuss Volvo\u2019s future cars with executives, including the company\u2019s Senior Vice President, Research & Development, Peter Mertens, and were given an overview of Volvo’s autonomous self-driving program that will begin next year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first time Volvo has hosted a press event just for women. Given the line-up of cars already earmarked for the brand\u2019s future, Mr. Samuelsson suggested it would not be the last.<\/p>\n
