Suzanne Keane checks out the very practical and very stylish Seat Ibiza Van<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

What is it?<\/strong>\u00a0Originally appearing in 1984 the Seat Ibiza has come a long way from its boxy Spanish roots and the facelifted MK4 version is also available in a commercial version.<\/p>\n

Styling?<\/strong>\u00a0The Ibiza van retains the funky looks of the car it\u2019s based on and by keeping the rear windows in place it really doesn\u2019t look like a van until you sit inside.<\/p>\n

Under the Bonnet?<\/strong>\u00a0The model tested had a 1.4L TDi diesel engine which has a 75bhp output.<\/p>\n

What about inside?<\/strong>\u00a0The interior of the Ibiza van is quite basic \u2013 plastic finishes dominate the cabin but there is a 5\u201d touchscreen with SD card and USB connectivity. Seats are comfortable and despite being open to the rear road noise isn\u2019t really an issue. In the back there\u2019s a parcel shelf hiding the floor space so if you\u2019re not carrying bulky loads it\u2019s ideal for keeping goods well-hidden and a cage separates the front and back compartments.<\/p>\n

How much can it carry?<\/strong>\u00a0The Ibiza van we tested has a payload of 440Kg or 930 litres.<\/p>\n

On the Road?<\/strong>\u00a0The 1.4TDi engine is more than adequate although can be a little noisy under pressure. Around town the tidy styling of the Ibiza makes it really easy to manoeuvre and the use of tinted glass in the rear windows make visibility much better.<\/p>\n

The Ibiza Van can carry up to 930 litres<\/p><\/div>\n

And Safety?<\/strong>\u00a0The Ibiza van comes with ABS, ESC, EBD and EBA as standard along with multi-collision braking system, enhanced vehicle deceleration warning light activation and driver and passenger airbags.<\/p>\n

Options?<\/strong>\u00a0Standard equipment on the Ibiza van includes a full size spare wheel, body coloured bumpers, rear spoiler, comfort suspension, electric windows and a 5\u201d touchscreen media system.<\/p>\n

Optional extras are available such as A\/C (\u20ac748), a driver package including cruise control (\u20ac140), a winter pack including heated front seats (\u20ac284), smart connect pack with Bluetooth and multifunction steering wheel (\u20ac234) and metallic paint (\u20ac415).<\/p>\n

Will it break the bank?<\/strong>\u00a0The Seat Ibiza van starts at \u20ac12,820 (\u20ac10,460 ex VAT) for a 1L petrol MPI engine with 75bhp. The model tested was a 1.4TDi 75bhp which starts from \u20ac14,710 (\u20ac11,995 ex VAT) and will consume just 3.9l\/100km.<\/p>\n

Verdict?<\/strong>\u00a0The Ibiza van looks good on the road but the interior finish feels very basic \u2013 however it\u2019s important to keep in mind that if you\u2019re eligible to claim the VAT back for your business you can own one of these for under \u20ac12k with a 3 year warranty.<\/p>\n

Why you\u2019ll buy one?<\/strong>\u00a0Economical and looks just like a car<\/p>\n

Why you won\u2019t?<\/strong>\u00a0Load space is just slightly better than a car with the seats folded down!<\/p>\n
