Seat Ibiza FR<\/p><\/div>\n

Looking for a small car with attitude? \u00a0We check out the Seat Ibiza FR and Ford Fiesta Black Edition writes Suzanne Keane<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A few years ago owning a \u201cmini\u201d hot hatch that stood out from the crowd was the reserve of those in the modified car scene or in possession of a few cans of spray-paint but these days if you\u2019re looking for a small car that doesn\u2019t blend into the background and is fun to drive there are \u201coff the shelf\u201d options available! We\u2019ve taken a look at two of these \u2013 The Seat Ibiza FR and Ford Fiesta Black Edition (also available in red).<\/p>\n

Styling?\u00a0<\/strong>Both cars share the same body lines as the standard hatch but with a few little enhancements. The Black Edition Fiesta is painted Panther black with red accents to the mirror caps, around the air intake on the front bumper and has a red roof, all set off through the use of front and rear sports bumpers, side skirts and a rear spoiler with black alloy wheels and a honeycomb grille finishing off the look.<\/p>\n

The Ibiza has always been a funky looking car and in FR guise it gains new bumpers and twin round exhaust tailpipes along with red mirrors and alloy wheels as part of an option pack.<\/p>\n

What about inside?\u00a0<\/strong>Apart from the seats, steering wheel and gearknob (and the red vent surrounds) the dashboard in the Ibiza can feel a little cheap but sitting inside it does feel like a much bigger car. The easy to use 5\u201d touchscreen dominates the dashboard and the red seatbelts are a nice touch!<\/p>\n

While the interior of the Fiesta feels to be of a higher quality the lack of touchscreen or cruise control are noticeable. The seats are comfortable and the steering wheel feels great but all the buttons on the dashboard can get a little confusing when you\u2019re driving.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Under the bonnet?\u00a0<\/strong>The Fiesta is powered by a 1.0L Ecoboost 125PS petrol engine and will do 0-100kmph in 9.4 seconds. The Ibiza FR has slightly less bhp but it\u2019s really not that noticeable once you\u2019re out on the road and it will do 0-100kmph in 10.7 seconds and top speed on both cars is around the 190kmph mark.<\/p>\n

On the Road?\u00a0<\/strong>On the open road both cars are fun to drive, have excellent handling and that little bit of a kick when you press the accelerator but in a drag race the Fiesta would definitely win. However, the Ibiza FR has quite a nice sounding exhaust tone when you plant your right foot that the Fiesta is missing. Around town they\u2019re both extremely easy to manoeuvre and parking is a doddle.<\/p>\n

Inside the Ford Fiesta Black Edition<\/p><\/div>\n

Will it break the bank?\u00a0<\/strong>The Fiesta Black Edition starts at \u20ac21,800 while the Ibiza FR will set you back \u20ac20,471 (as tested). Road tax on both models is circa \u20ac200 and official figures for fuel consumption are 4.9l\/100km on the Ibiza FR and 4.3l\/100km on the Fiesta.<\/p>\n

What do I get?\u00a0<\/strong>The Ford Fiesta Black Edition comes with 16\u201d alloys, a body kit including front and rear sports bumpers, side skirts and rear roof spoiler, a black leather trimmed sports steering wheel, charcoal black sports seats, revised gear ratios and sports suspension including a stiffened rear axle.<\/p>\n

The Seat Ibiza FR comes with 17\u201d alloys, 5\u201d touchscreen, Bi-Xenon headlights, Cruise Control, FR Leather steering wheel and gearknob as standard. Additional options on the test car included a \u201cRed Pack\u201d and Dynamic \u201cRed\u201d alloys along with SEAT Full Link.<\/p>\n

Verdict?\u00a0<\/strong>If you\u2019re in the market for a small car that\u2019s fun to drive with low running costs you could do much worse than either of these options. I definitely enjoyed being behind the wheel of the Fiesta that little bit more but looking at value for money and all the extras that come with the Ibiza, for a lower price tag, it is probably the better choice!<\/p>\n
