What is it?<\/strong> The new, fourth generation Kia Rio has gone on sale. This five-door, Fiesta, Polo and Clio rivaling supermini accounts for 15% of Kia\u2019s annual sales.<\/p>\n

First impressions of the new Kia Rio?<\/strong> The exterior styling of the new Rio is very similar to the older model and it\u2019s clear that practicality has the edge over design but while the new Kia lacks some of the drama and funky appeal of rivals it is still a smart looking car.<\/p>\n

What about the interior?<\/strong> Behind the wheel everything is logically laid out and there\u2019s plenty of adjustment to help any sized driver get comfortable. There is a nice premium feel throughout and space is good front and back so there should be no complaints from passengers or luggage as there’s masses of space inside for both plus\u00a0a 325 litre boot.<\/p>\n

And on the road<\/strong>? \u00a0There are three engine choices one 1.2 (85hp) petrol engine and two 1.4 diesel units (77hp and 90hp) .The 100hp one litre turbo petrol engine will follow later in the year. The diesels are the most economical choice, returning as much as 3.5 litres per 100km or over 80 mpg and CO2 emissions from 92g\/km. On the road the Rio is comfortable and easy to drive and the overall driving experience\u00a0is an improvement on the old model.<\/p>\n

How Much?<\/strong> \u00a0The range starts from \u20ac15,950 up to \u20ac20,450 for the range topping Platinum model that comes with Sat Nav and Android Auto and all models come with Kia’s tempting seven-year warranty.<\/p>\n

What about my options?<\/strong> The Rio is available in six trim levels L, LX,\u00a0 EX, EX ADAS, EXE, and Platinum. There is no scrimping on the equipment and leather wrapped gear knob and steering wheel, Bluetooth, idle stop and go and \u00a0keyless entry are all standard \u00a0on the entry level trim.<\/p>\n

How safe?<\/strong> The new Rio is fitted with six airbags throughout the cabin and features a wide array of passive safety equipment. It is also the first car in class to offer Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition but you’ll need to fork out extra to avail of it as it is only offered on the EX ADAS version – \u00a0the model fitted with the safety pack and is priced from \u00a0\u20ac19,450.<\/p>\n
