Think of it as a BMW X5 on steroids!<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is it aimed at? <\/strong>The original X6 was aimed at the successful forty something business person who\u00a0yearned for\u00a0a more sporty driving experience. Certainly it is unlikely to tempt families but we are pretty certain that the X6 will appeal to a wide mix of people who are not in the conventional four-wheel-drive market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Styling<\/strong>\u00a0 The X6 continues to divide opinion<strong> <\/strong>and the new version is still as bold a design statement as it first was. It\u2019s muscular, prominent, aggressive and has a colossal road presence but we remain unconvinced that this is a good looking car; striking \u00a0and distinctive yes but attractive no.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Under the Bonnet\u00a0 <\/strong>Our test car was powered by the 3.0-litre diesel that delivers enough power to propel this enormous\u00a0 chunk of metal to<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>100km\u00a0in a mere 7.5 seconds. It has a top speed of 222km.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/x6-wheels_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1885\" title=\"x6-wheels_3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/x6-wheels_3.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s it like Inside <\/strong>The interior is as luxurious as you would expect and it oozes style from every angle. The sloping roof restricts headroom and space in the rear. Rear vision is also hampered so you really have to be aware of blind spots but parking sensors and a rear camera make it a doodle to\u00a0squeeze into tight spots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the Road<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Put your foot to the floor and instantly it is smooth and the response quick. The driving position is commanding, and the road simply disappears beneath its enormous wheels. Despite its colossal proportions it is the sheer agility of the X6 that impresses and it<strong> <\/strong>feels rock-solid on any bend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Safety <\/strong>The X6 has not yet been tested by the EuroNCAP but there is no reason to doubt it will be afforded the top rating. It comes equipped with all of BMW&#8217;s best electronic wizardry designed to help you avoid accidents in the first place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fuel Economy<\/strong> Surprisingly, the X6 is quite a\u00a0frugal thing. Our test proved pretty close to the official average of 7.4 litres per 100km. But with CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions of 195 g\/km it comes with a hefty annual motor tax bill of \u20ac1,129.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/x6-wheels_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1886\" title=\"P90072450\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/x6-wheels_21.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verdict:<\/strong> On paper it is hard to justify the X6, it is an expensive four seater\u00a0offering less functionality than an X5 but costing more.\u00a0It is\u00a0big, opulent and indulgent but you\u2019ll love every minute spent in it.
