\"\"<\/a>It has been a busy start to 2019 in my move from Marshal to Racing Driver writes Ruth Nugent<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Firstly I\u2019d like to wish everyone a happy race season 2019! I hope the off season has gone by quick enough for all of you.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t been able to give an update any sooner than now as I\u2019ve been going through biologic infusion treatment for my Crohn\u2019s Disease. These will hopefully get my health back in order and give me the energy needed to get through the upcoming race season. I will be working with the ISCC (Irish Society of Colitis and Crohn\u2019s Disease) helping to raise awareness of IBD and to document life as a race driver living with Crohn\u2019s Disease to help newly diagnosed patients see that a long term illness doesn\u2019t have to stop you from doing adventurous things in life, like racing cars!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fiesta Zetec Championship<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Over the off season I\u2019ve made some decisions and some changes to what I\u2019d like to do in the 2019\u00a0race season. I decided to do another year in the Fiesta Zetec Championship as I felt another year in a familiar class would be the best thing for gaining more driving experience and confidence on the track. I will be competing in Emma Dempsey Racing\u2019s sponsored Fiesta Zetec that was used by the WiM team in the Fiesta 6 hour endurance race last November and I will be run by Clinton Motorsport. It\u2019s going to be a good year. (Fingers crossed!)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BMX<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I recently moved house which happened to put me right beside a BMX track. It was a no-brainer to enquire and see about joining. They do an 11-week female coaching session which has females from the ages of 9 to 53 so it was great to see ladies of all ages get together and support one another while training together. From the first session, I was hooked. I loved it! I got set up with a good Haro\u00a0race-spec bike and dove straight into the fun stuff. It was something I\u2019ve always wanted to try and is a highly enjoyable way of keeping fit and preparing for the upcoming race season!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Race Preparations<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I have done one track day and have another test day coming up soon. The car is feeling good and it\u2019s currently getting wrapped by the talented lads up in PTG in Louth so we can\u2019t wait to see what it will look like! I\u2019ve been very lucky to gain some great sponsors for the upcoming season \u2013 I\u2019m delighted to welcome Precision Window Tinting &amp; Graphics, Nugent Manufacturing Ltd and Norse Logistics Ltd on board this year alongside Clinton Motorsport and Emma Dempsey Racing! Thank you for all your support so far. Everything is slowly but surely falling into place and I\u2019m feeling determined and incredibly excited to see what I can achieve this year.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Marshalling<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Marshalling season is starting nice and early for me with the Nifty Fifty (Honda 50 charity endurance race) in February, a few Motorbike track days in March and best of all the first weekend of the Dunlop Masters in Mondello on April 6th and 7th. The Mondello Park Track Team and the Motorcycle Marshals Association have joined together to make one united marshals society for motorsport in Ireland \u2013 the Motorsport Marshals Association. We have plenty of marshal training days coming up in March held in Mondello Park. If you\u2019re interested in joining us find us on Facebook @ Motorsport Marshals Association and get in touch. Newcomers are always welcome!<\/p>\n

Next time I will hopefully be able to reveal our newly wrapped Fiesta and more importantly I can fill you all in on why I was invited to a sneaky little trip to the Anglesey track in January\u2026 My first race weekend is the 13th and 14th of April in Mondello Park on the national circuit. Come on down for a day of great championship racing and meet us if you\u2019re around!<\/p>\n
