Your current car? <\/strong>Volvo XC 60, diesel 142-D. It\u2019s Caspian blue and cream leather, not perhaps the most child-friendly colour combination but I love it and regularly polish the seats, reminding me of my old horse riding days when I\u2019d have to soap saddles!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is\na car important to you? <\/strong>Yes, hugely. I\u2019d love to say I use\npublic transport extensively but I don\u2019t. I live near dart and bus\nstops but I find the timetables are hit and miss plus at key periods\nboth are jam packed. The convenience of a car outweighs the\nchallenges of parking for me, but I am looking at an electric car. I\nwould use a bicycle but the Rock Road is one of my main tributaries\nto anywhere and it\u2019s hellish for bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\ndo you use your car for?<\/strong> For everything, I have two boys and am\nalways on the school run or carpooling. As an author I have the\nprivilege of travelling around to meet book shop owners, I have seen\nsome of the most beautiful independent and main stream books stores\nin the country and I like to drive, the peace on the roads when you\nget out very early or when you\u2019re travelling off peak is\ndelightful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When\nchoosing your next car is it the efficiency, performance or the\nenvironment that would be the key consideration? <\/strong>For me it\u2019s\nthe environment and I\u2019m watching all the programmes and articles on\nwhich electric car to buy, which will go for miles on a charge and of\ncourse affordability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any\nbad habits? <\/strong>Tons and I drive too fast, but I am polite on the\nroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\nsort of state is your car in (inside or out)? <\/strong> Clean freak. . .I\nfind mess uncomfortable and as I spend quite a bit of time in my car\nI like it to be clean \u2013 of course it doesn\u2019t always work out that\nway particularly in the winter when collecting children from\nfootball, rugby or gaelic! \u2013 but if the car is clean I enjoy my\njourneys more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What’s in the boot and the glove compartment? <\/strong>In the boot is a dog cage, I take the dog on many of the short journeys so his cage is in the boot. In the glove compartment, it\u2019s service manuals and warranties, holy water my friend Sharon brought me back from Knock (I\u2019ve never had a crash, touches plastic Virgin Mary) and wet wipes. I can never have enough of those.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How\nwould you describe your driving, then? <\/strong>I believe I\u2019m quite safe\n\u2013 not driving Miss Daisy \u2013 but I want to be considerate on the\nroads and have an abhorrence of people flashing lights or making\ngestures. . .life\u2019s just too short!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ever\ncrashed, got a parking ticket or points? <\/strong>Definitely a couple of\nparking tickets. . .who knew traffic wardens wore blue! I find the\nparking bays tight and the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown traffic wardens are\nvery efficient when you\u2019re parking ticket expires I had four points\nin total for speeding. . .but I maintain I got them where it was like\nshooting fish in a barrel. . .but I would say that, wouldn\u2019t I? <\/p>\n\n\n\n


Have you ever experienced road rage (either passively or actively)? <\/strong>Yes, very recently on the way to Wexford and it was a woman, clapping and jeering behind me (all manner of gestures) as I wouldn\u2019t overtake a tractor on double white lines. She pulled out and literally had to jam on her brakes as a car was coming straight at her. .. double whites are there for a reason!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was your first car? <\/strong> Peugeot 106, turquoise with a natty blue interior! Child of the nineties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dream drive in a dream location? <\/strong>Amalfi coast in an Aston Martin DB9<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who\nwould be your dream passenger? <\/strong>Nora Ephron, because we\u2019d laugh\nand laugh. . .wonderful witty woman, may she rest in peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger, you’d least like? <\/strong>Can I say Trump? Does everyone say Trump? I\u2019d throw Ivanka in there too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jane\nRyan studied with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland\nand has worked in the technology industry for over twenty years. She\nlives in Dublin with her husband and two sons. Her stories are\npublished online with Creativewriting.ie and in print. Jane was\nshortlisted for the Hennessy Literary Awards and her latest short\nstory appeared in an anthology entitled Strange Love Affairs. \n47 Seconds is her first novel<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
