1) Driving in the wrong gear –<\/strong>
\nTo drive more efficiently don\u2019t rev the engine and change up into a higher gear as soon as it is possible, correct use of gears can save you up to 15% of your fuel bill.<\/p>\n

2) Ignoring warning lights \u2013<\/strong>
\nMany drivers don’t understand the most common dashboard warning lights so while some are gentle reminders of things you need to attend to there are a few that are extremely serious so if one lights up on your dashboard check it out, otherwise you could end up stranded on the road or face expensive repairs.<\/p>\n

3) Sudden Braking-.<\/strong>
\nConstantly slamming on your brakes will wear out your discs and brake pads and increase the likelihood of brake failure. Also use your handbrake on hills. Riding the clutch wastes fuel and dramatically reduces the life of the clutch. With an automatic transmission, use your handbrake, not the accelerator, to hold against an incline<\/p>\n

4) Forgetting about your tyres.<\/strong>
\nWell maintained tyres are essential for safe and economical driving. Check tyre pressures regularly correctly inflated tyres can improve fuel consumption by up to 2%.<\/p>\n

6) Driving too fast<\/strong>
\nThe faster you go the greater the fuel consumption and pollution. Driving just 8 km\/h over the speed limit can affect fuel consumption by 23% , the most fuel-efficient speed is 75-80 km\/h.<\/p>\n

7) Be wise about how much fuel you consume

8) Carless parking –<\/strong>

9) Stop idling –
\n<\/strong>The fastest way to waste fuel is to idle and it’s an easy habit to develop particularly when on the phone, doing routine admin or listening to the radio. If there is a stop and start system in your cars ensure your drivers turn off their engine if the car isn\u2019t moving and always switch off their engine if they have to wait longer than 60 seconds.<\/p>\n

10) Carrying too much weight around –<\/strong>
\nIs your car disappearing under the weight of all that office clutter? Clutter in your car is not only an unsightly nuisance but carrying unnecessary items around increases fuel consumption and adds to the wear and tear of your car.<\/p>\n

11) Use Telematics
\n<\/strong>Telematics is an essential way to ensure your drivers are not only taking the most efficient routes but are driving in the most efficient way.\u00a0 A black box, within the car, monitors how harshly the driver brakes, accelerates and corners and this information determines how much of a risk they pose on the road. As a result, it could help reduce your business car insurance premiums.<\/p>\n
