Photographer and blogger Val Robus recalls her first car<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

What was your first car and why did you buy it?<\/strong>
\nMy first car was a Mini – think Mr. Bean’s car and you’ve got the idea. I was 17 when I bought it and learned how to drive in it.<\/p>\n

How did you come by the vehicle?<\/strong>
\nMy driving instructor recommended it to me.<\/p>\n

What do you remember about it?<\/strong>
\nIt was a heap! It was held together with fiberglass and tinfoil.<\/p>\n

Would you describe yourself as a car enthusiast?<\/strong>
\nYes I suppose I am. I’m particularly interested in electric cars.<\/p>\n

How did it change your life?<\/strong>
\nI used to have to get two buses to work and home again so it gave me freedom, saved me time, and I loved being on the road.<\/p>\n

What was the longest trip you took in the car?<\/strong>
\nIn this particular car I didn’t go far at all but with my next car I was all over the place, it was much better except for a leaking sunroof.<\/p>\n

How reliable was it?<\/strong>
\nThe mini wasn’t at all reliable, every time I went around a corner something dropped off it.<\/p>\n

What was your best memory or most memorable moment in the car?<\/strong>
\nPassing my test and going out on my own in it.<\/p>\n

What was your worst memory associated with the car?<\/strong>
\nThe exhaust dropping off in the middle of a roundabout and me having to get out, dodge the traffic and rescue it!<\/p>\n

How long did you keep your first car, and why did you decide to get rid of it for another?<\/strong>
\nI only had it for around 6 months, I’d had enough of getting it fixed.<\/p>\n

Which car do you most regret selling?<\/strong>
\nI had a little green Hyundai Getz once, it had peeling paint and wasn’t pretty at all but I had the best adventures in it.<\/p>\n

What is your dream car, money no object?<\/strong>
\nI like the Toyota Yaris Hybrid but I’d love a long range electric car. Possibly a Kona but I really like the Renault Zoe, they are lovely cars to drive.<\/p>\n
