Pauline, Joseph and Karen Burke, Dealer Principals of JJ Burke Car Sales<\/p><\/div>\n

JJ Burke Car Sales, Ballinrobe held an Electric Vehicle (EV) virtual information evening on Thursday evening last, 25th March with a panel of Ireland\u2019s leading EV experts. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Due to the current pandemic registered guests joined in from the comfort of their homes and offices across Ireland, the event itself was held through webinar and live on Facebook. The highly anticipated evening was hosted by Caroline Downey who was live from the Mayo dealership while panellists \u2018zoomed\u2019 in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all in this together\u201d said Hugh Hall, Executive Director, ePower Ireland. Hugh gave a very insightful presentation on the different kind of chargers available, cost of the chargers and some information on installing and securing from both a domestic and commercial basis. \u201cDon\u2019t be left with questions we are here to support you\u201d, Hugh added, a really important point as the government\u2019s aim is to have us all in Electric Vehicles by 2030.<\/p>\n

Geraldine Herbert, Motoring Journalist, a regular contributor to radio\/ TV shows and founder of wheelsforwomen.ie<\/a> gave us an in-depth rundown on the advantages and disadvantages of driving electric. Geraldine told of \u201chow fun it is to drive a fully electric car\u201d and why we really have no reason to have \u2018range anxiety, \u201call you need to do is plan your journeys, learn how to efficiently drive them and in a short space of time you will really understand that driving electric really is the way to go\u201d. Geraldine reiterated, \u201cthe biggest thing is the test drive. JJ Burke\u2019s offer a 24 to 72 hr test drive. This is excellent, other dealerships should look at doing the same. The cost of buying an EV is at a premium however you need to take into consideration the total cost of ownership and eventually, in the coming years the cost of an EV will be on par with a petrol\/ diesel version.\u201d<\/p>\n

Programme Manager at SEAI, Shane Prendergast presented a detailed discussion on where we need to be by 2030, \u201ca fundamental shift in consumer vehicle preference is required for Ireland to meet the target of 936,300 EVs by 2030, as indicated by the Climate Action Plan (CAP). We are delighted that we can offer grants. We will ensure the grant application process is as smooth as possible and will be done between the dealership where you purchased the vehicle and ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

We heard from JJ Burke\u2019s customer, Seamus Coyne, \u201cI am delighted with my Renault Zoe and I would never go back into a Petrol or diesel car again\u201d; Seamus told us.<\/p>\n

After many questions from the engaged virtual audience the evening closed on a conversation with JJ Burke Car Sales, Dealer Principal and Renault EV Expert, Joseph Burke and JJ Burke Sales Executive and Peugeot EV Expert, John Robinson giving us a rundown on the Renault and Peugeot EV\u2019s available at the Ballinrobe dealership. \u00a0\u201cWhat a fantastic evening,\u201d said Joseph after the event, \u201cWe are delighted with the interest this evening, this shows there is an appetite to understand more about EV\u2019s and we are well-positioned here at JJ Burkes having in-house experts at hand. We are so grateful to Geraldine, Hugh and Shane for their expertise this evening and we look forward to working with them in the future for more events like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
