Leaving the house five minutes earlier changes the nature of how you make the journey.<\/li>\n<li>Take extra care to compensate for the fact that children won&#8217;t always be paying attention, especially when approaching the school gate.<\/li>\n<li>Never stop on the yellow &#8220;zig zags&#8221; by the school gate, and always ensure you let your passengers out on the pavement side.<\/li>\n<li>Try to arrange an informal agreement to share the driving with other parents so that there are fewer cars at the school.<\/li>\n<li>Roads surrounding schools are usually 30kmh, it&#8217;s important to slow down and keep an eye out for children crossing the road.<\/li>\n<li>If your children are walking to school on their own, make sure they are aware of the potential hazards such as crossing busy roads and encourage them to always use the pedestrian crossing if there is one &#8211; especially as they move up to new schools and start to make the journey independently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more safety tips check out the IAM <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drivingadvice.org.uk,\">website<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>30th August, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Drivers need \u00a0to take extra care this week as the school run starts again around the country Don&#8217;t compromise your concentration and the safety of other road users by being in a hurry.
