By closing Custom House Quay to motorized traffic Dubliners have a chance to experience their city in a new, more sustainable way. Car Free Day is the grand finale of European Mobility Week, an annual initiative by the European Commission focused on promoting sustainable urban mobility. This year\u2019s theme emphasizes the importance of creating designated spaces where communities can gather, interact, and enjoy their environment.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Lord Mayor Donna Cooney shared her enthusiasm, saying, \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to see Car Free Day return to Dublin. As a European capital committed to being Climate Neutral by 2030, it\u2019s crucial that we explore all forms of transport, not just motor vehicles. Car Free Day is a fantastic opportunity to experience Dublin in a fun, sustainable way. I encourage all Dubliners to join us at Custom House Quay\u2014whether you\u2019re walking, cycling, or hopping on public transport, come out and enjoy this family-friendly event on the final day of European Mobility Week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucy Hayes, DCC\u2019s Walking and Cycling Officer, added, \u201cCar Free Day is a unique chance for Dublin residents and visitors to experience our city in a completely new way. Against the stunning backdrop of Custom House Quay, we\u2019re bringing fun back to the streets of Dublin while promoting sustainable transport alternatives. It\u2019s a day to celebrate the benefits of reclaiming our city\u2019s streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information and to book your spot on the free tours, visit <a href=\"www.facebook.com\/CarFreeDayDublin\" rel=\"noopener\">Car Free Day Dublin on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel Information for Sunday 22nd September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Custom House Quay is closed to all vehicular traffic between 7am and 7pm on Sunday September 22nd. The area will only be accessible to pedestrians between these times. To minimise disruption during the event the following arrangements will be in place:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cyclists<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Please note that this is a pedestrianised event with no through traffic. Cyclists must dismount to enter the event area. Cycle parking will be provided up to 4pm (event end) at entrances to the event on Custom House Quay by Butt Bridge and by Matt Talbot Bridge.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Buses<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Buses normally travelling westerly on Custom House Quay will be diverted from\u00a0Memorial Road to Matt Talbot Memorial Bridge, George\u2019s Quay, Butt Bridge, Eden Quay and back on to normal route.<\/p>\n<p>Buses normally travelling easterly on Custom House Quay will be diverted from\u00a0Eden Quay to Beresford Place, Memorial Road and back on to normal route.<\/p>\n<p>Information on Bus diversions and stops can be found on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dublinbus.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.dublinbus.ie&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1726928233603000&amp;usg=AOvVaw261PXocIsfmxQfrKGyF0m5\">www.dublinbus.ie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>LUAS<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>LUAS will operate a normal Sunday service<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cars<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Car traffic travelling across the Liffey on Butt Bridge, seeking to turn onto Custom House Quay, will be diverted\u00a0to Beresford Place, Memorial Road and back on to North Quays.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dublin City Council announces the return of Car Free Day!
