What is it?<\/strong>
\nThe iconic Renault 5 has been reimagined for a new generation and is making a very welcome comeback as a funky and affordable EV.<\/p>\n

First impressions of the new Renault 5?
\n<\/strong>The character of the original Renault 5 has really been captured, for those of us who remember, and for those who don\u2019t it\u2019s a funky city car with an almost cartoonish appearance, sitting on 18\u201d wheels. The widened wheel arches are a throwback to the 5 Turbo and the front end looks really mean, for such a small car. The tall taillights of the 1970s car have made a comeback and are linked with a horizontal stripe, which visually lowers the car even more. For those with range anxiety, there\u2019s a bonnet display which will tell you how much charge is left.<\/p>\n

What about the interior?\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe interior is a slick combination of contemporary styling mixed with retro detailing. The seats have a really sporty look and the \u201c5\u201d branding continues through to the inside, just in case you forgot what you were driving. The fabrics are made from
\n100% recycled fibres. My favourite touch was the vertical stitching on the panel above the glovebox. \u201cGear\u201d changes are via the e-pop shifter and boot space is 326 litres<\/p>\n

And\u00a0on the road?\u00a0<\/strong>
\nBehind the wheel it doesn\u2019t feel like a small car and is very steady. There\u2019s plenty of pep when you put your foot down (0-100kmph ion 8 seconds) but it\u2019s also happy to just cruise along in traffic. It will take 30 minutes to get from 15% to 80% charged and has up to a 410km range.<\/p>\n

If storm \u00c9owyn has given you a greater appreciation for electricity the new Renault 5 features V2L which will allow you to power a 220V appliance from your car\u2019s battery through the use of a special adapter.<\/p>\n

How much?<\/strong>
\nThe base spec Renault 5 starts at just \u20ac25,995 for a 40kWh battery, rising to \u20ac32,995 for the top of the range model with the larger 52kWh battery.<\/p>\n

How safe?<\/strong>
\nThe Renault 5 comes with all the safety features you\u2019d expect in a modern car and has a 4-star Euro NCAP rating.<\/p>\n

What about my options?<\/strong>\u00a0 There are 3 different trim levels and two battery options available. The base model Evolution comes with Android Auto\/Apple CarPlay with a 10.1\u201d multimedia system, parking sensors, auto LED lights and automatic climate control and starts at just \u20ac25,995 for the 40kWh battery. One step up to Techno will get you a set of 18\u201d alloy wheels, built in Google, a rearview camera and heated mirrors at \u20ac27,995. A range topping Iconic model with the larger 52 kWh battery (410km range) will cost \u20ac32,995 and comes with hands free parking, heated seats and adaptive cruise control. Outside of the trim levels there are 5 colour choices (Pearl White, Starry Black, Night Blue, Green Pop and Yellow Pop) when combined with roof options and accessory combinations will really allow you to customise your car. Renault have opened a store at Dundrum Shopping Centre where you can explore the car and its history.<\/p>\n
