\"\"<\/a>Volkswagen is celebrating 50 years of its most famous hot hatch with the Golf GTI Edition 50. Here are 10 things worth knowing.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

  1. It marks 50 years of GTI.<\/strong>
    \nThis is more than a badge-and-wheel special: Volkswagen has added serious power and chassis upgrades.<\/li>\n
  2. It is the most powerful production GTI yet.<\/strong>
    \nIts 2.0-litre turbo produces 325 PS and 420 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG gearbox.<\/li>\n
  3. It is fast.<\/strong>
    \nIt reaches 100 km\/h in 5.3 seconds and tops out at 270 km\/h\u2014matching a Golf R fitted with the R-Performance package.<\/li>\n
  4. It remains front-wheel drive.<\/strong>
    \nAn electronically controlled differential helps turn all that power into traction rather than tyre smoke.<\/li>\n
  5. The serious chassis kit is standard.<\/strong>
    \nAdaptive DCC suspension, progressive steering and the locking differential make this a sharper GTI, not simply a faster one.<\/li>\n
  6. There is a N\u00fcrburgring mode.<\/strong>
    \nThe \u201cSpecial\u201d profile adjusts the engine, steering and dampers for the Nordschleife and, more usefully, demanding real-world roads.<\/li>\n
  7. The Performance Package loses around 25 kg.<\/strong>
    \nIt adds forged 19-inch wheels, a titanium-tailpipe exhaust, semi-slick tyres and another 5 mm drop in ride height.<\/li>\n
  8. It looks special but subtle.<\/strong>
    \nGTI 50 badges, black tailpipes, Clubsport-style bumpers and distinctive 19-inch wheels provide the clues.<\/li>\n
  9. It’s got tartan<\/strong>
    \nSpecial Clark GTI 50 upholstery, red seat belts and anniversary logos brighten the cabin. It remains a usable five-door Golf, with a 374-litre boot expanding to 1,230 litres.<\/li>\n
  10. The price is anything but discreet.<\/strong>
    \nThe Edition 50 starts at \u20ac74,792 in Ireland, the Golf GTE starts at \u20ac56,960, the 333hp four-wheel-drive Golf R at \u20ac78,825 and the R Black Edition at \u20ac83,390. And be warned: options quickly inflate the bill.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
