The shortlist of models for the Continental Irish Car of the Year 2014 has been announced by the Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sponsored by Continental\u00a0Tyres\u00a0Ireland, the overall winner of the 2014 title will be announced at an awards ceremony in the\u00a0Crowne\u00a0Plaza Hotel,\u00a0Santry, on Thursday 21st<\/sup>November<\/p>\n

The shortlisted models are as follows (in alphabetical order)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nDacia\u00a0Sandero<\/a>
\nFord Fiesta ST<\/a>

\nPeugeot 2008<\/a>
\nPeugeot 208\u00a0GTi<\/a>
\nRange Rover
\nRenault Clio<\/a>
\nSkoda Octavia<\/a>
\nToyota\u00a0Auris<\/a>
\nToyota Corolla
\nVolkswagen Golf<\/a>
\nVolkswagen Golf GTI<\/a><\/p>\n

From 51 eligible cars, selection of the shortlisted vehicles is based on votes from the 28 voting members of the IMWA, taking into account such factors as value for money, style, engineering and performance.<\/p>\n

Gerry Murphy, Chairman of the IMWA, said: \u201cWhat an excellent range of cars in this year\u2019s shortlist \u2013 the most exciting for a number of years \u2013 they really show how, in latter years, the car manufacturers have developed a range of totally new car segments \u2013 it won\u2019t be an easy task to choose a winner from this great line up\u201d.<\/p>\n
