Young driver and rising GAA star Cillian O\u2019Conor takes to the wheel in support of Ireland\u2019s first \u2018Safest Young Driver\u2019 competition. The competition is open to eligible young drivers aged between 17 and 21 who meet the required qualifying criteria and have their online applications returned by the closing date of Friday 21st February 2014.<\/p><\/div>\n

Ireland\u2019s youngest motorists only have until Friday 21st<\/sup>\u00a0February to be in with a chance of winning the title of \u2018Ireland\u2019s Safest Young Driver\u2019 and a year of free driving.<\/p>\n

As part of a major nationwide initiative aimed at raising road safety awareness among younger drivers, and demonstrating how new technology can help, more than 60 drivers aged between 17 and 21 from every county in Ireland will have their driving skills put to the test in a 10-week challenge.<\/p>\n

Those young drivers shortlisted for the final will have their vehicles fitted with the very latest in-car, \u2018black box\u2019 technology which will monitor their driving skills.\u00a0 Using the Ingenium Dynamics award-winning driver behaviour management system which records every driving moment, the task of determining the overall winner will be easy.<\/p>\n

Organised by leading accident services provider CRASH and supported by Hooper Dolan Insurance Group, the young driver with the best overall driving score will win a total prize fund worth \u20ac4,000 to help keep them driving over the next full year.<\/p>\n

This includes up to\u00a0 \u20ac1,500 towards insurance, \u20ac1,500 towards fuel costs and \u20ac1,000 towards other motoring costs.<\/p>\n

Tony McKeown, Sales and Marketing Director at CRASH, which is supplying the technology to be installed in all 64 vehicles to be used in the competition, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cResearch clearly shows that new, younger drivers are most at risk on the country\u2019s roads \u2013 particularly those who have passed their test and are starting to build up their experience and confidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite progress, the number of road deaths and injuries recorded on Irish roads remains stubbornly and tragically high \u2013 particularly among our young \u2013 and my hope is that this competition, using the very latest, approved, award-winning technology, will significantly increase road safety awareness among this key demographic.<\/p>\n
