Unfortunately it&#8217;s only when this happens that you find out how good or bad your breakdown cover is writes Suzanne Keane\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>So what are my options?<\/p>\n<p>Usually your insurance policy will come with a basic level of breakdown cover (double check to make sure). Depending on the company this will cover roadside help and a tow (if required) to either the nearest garage or the nearest main dealer. You may also get the option for assistance at home &#8211; if your car won&#8217;t start in the morning for example.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have a preference or a usual garage this cover may be sufficient. However, if you travel far from home you may want a policy that includes for you to be able to continue your journey even if the car doesn&#8217;t (i.e. a rental car, train\/bus fare or overnight accommodation) or maybe even to have your car towed to a specific garage.
