Once the water subsides more than likely you won\u2019t be able to just jump in and drive it away!<\/p>\n<p>Firstly it\u2019s important to figure out how deeply the car was submerged \u2013 you can usually see where the waterline was from mud\/debris.<\/p>\n<p>If it wasn\u2019t high enough to reach the air intake, battery, or inside the car you\u2019ve probably been very lucky and it\u2019s safe to move your car to a safe place!<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise there are a few checks you\u2019ll need to do before using the car &#8211;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Oil level \u2013 if the oil level seems high or there are droplets of water on the dipstick there\u2019s water in your engine and it can\u2019t be started \u2013 doing so will cause irreparable damage.<\/li>\n<li>Also check the air intake\/filter for any signs of water.<\/li>\n<li>Fluids \u2013 check your coolant and brake fluid for any signs of contamination \u2013 even if you don\u2019t see anything unusual it\u2019s advisable to flush the system a.s.a.p. just in case!<\/li>\n<li>Electrical \u2013 even if your engine seems ok being submerged in water won\u2019t have done the electrics any favours. Make sure everything is working as it should \u2013 headlights, windows, heater, a\/c etc. Electrical damage may not show up immediately but problems will occur when corrosion sets in.<\/li>\n<li>Interior \u2013 If your carpet, door cards or seats are showing any signs of water replace them!
