{"id":9759,"date":"2014-11-11T22:06:48","date_gmt":"2014-11-11T22:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/?p=9759"},"modified":"2015-09-05T18:19:31","modified_gmt":"2015-09-05T17:19:31","slug":"ssangyong-rexton-w","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/index.php\/ssangyong-rexton-w\/","title":{"rendered":"SsangYong Rexton W"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9761\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_1.jpg\" alt=\"Rexton_1\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><strong>We<\/strong><strong> get behind the wheel of SsangYong&#8217;s flagship model the \u00a0Rexton W writes Geraldine Herbert<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is it?\u00a0<\/strong>This is the third generation SsangYong\u00a0\u00a0Rexton \u00a0and it joins the the smaller Korando Crossover and the Rodius MPV sevenseater in the SsangYong range<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is it aimed at?<\/strong> Priced from \u20ac38,000, with rugged looks, a full 2.6-tonne towing capacity and off road capability the Rexton would appear to offer a lot of car for the money.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Styling?\u00a0<\/strong>First impressions are pretty good, it is chunky with decent\u00a0road presence thanks to the new front and rear bumpers; new grille, headlights and foglamps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Under the Bonnet?\u00a0<\/strong>The Rexton W\u00a0is powered by a\u00a0\u00a0two-litre turbo diesel\u00a0engine putting out 155bhp with lots of low end pulling power\u00a0and\u00a0this\u00a0gives the car a towing capacity of 2.6 tones (perfect for horseboxes or boats) and it comes equipped with a low-range gearbox and hill descent control so it should be \u00a0fairly capable off road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What about inside?<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">SsangYong<\/span> \u00a0interiors have never been the last word in design elegance but the aluminium-effect and chrome finishes along with soft-touch materials result in a greater impression of quality and it feels well built<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the Road?\u00a0<\/strong>There is \u00a0a lot of engine noise\u00a0 that intrudes into the cabin and this is made all the worse because the automatic gear box is slow to change so this means it revs quite high a lot of the time. The ride is uncomfortable and you feel every bump in the road, \u00a0its wallowy around corners and the steering is really vague .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9762\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_2.jpg\" alt=\"Rexton_2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.wheelsforwomen.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Rexton_2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>And Safety<\/strong>? The car features a comprehensive package of active safety features including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Active Rollover Protection (ARP), ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).\u00a0 There are dual front and side air bags, while ISO-Fix and tether anchorage points for child seats are fitted on the second row. It has not however been tested by the EuroNCAP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Options? <\/strong>It is\u00a0well equipped , some of the standard equipment on the Rexton includes cruise control, climate control, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated seats and rear parking sensors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will it break the bank?\u00a0<\/strong>The Rexton W is a 4X4 and there are three versions. A two-seat Commercial \u20ac34,119, a five-seat Business\/utility \u20ac38,329 and a Limited Edition seven-seater passenger \u20ac44,474. Our test car was the business edition and it is a full five-seater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economy?\u00a0<\/strong>The Rexton may be cheap to buy but its expensive to run, with co2 emissions of 206g it will set you back an eyewatering \u00a0\u20ac1,200 to tax a year and it returns 7.8 litres per 100 litres which is a not very impressive 36 miles to the gallon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verdict?<\/strong>\u00a0If value for money is your main consideration then the Rexton is a well equipped five\/seven seat \u00a0SUV with off-road ability for reasonable money.
