From small city cars to high performance models 2014 did not disappoint so choosing the ones that stood out is not an easy task writes Geraldine Herbert\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Hyundai i10<\/strong>
\nHigh on my list is the Hyundai i10. In a year that saw a succession of new city cars the i10 stands apart as a grown up and sophisticated interpretation of a classic city car that blends reliability, practicality and economy with smart styling and a focus on refinement. It’s not as visually striking as Toyota Aygo but it’s more practical than rivals and with a reputation for excellent reliability, a five year unlimited warranty and a price tag of just \u20ac11,995 you certainly get lots for your money.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alfa Romeo 4C<\/strong>
\nTrue joy of the year came from the Alfa Romeo 4C. As a very fast and understated performance car there are few that can match the Audi S3 while the Leon Cupra is super value for money but my favourite performance car of the year was without hesitation the stunning Alfa Romeo 4C. Recent Alfa\u2019s may have struggled to live up to the brand\u2019s glorious heritage but the 4C exceeds all expectations and is a pure sports car.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Peugeot 308 SW<\/strong>
\nAs a family car the Peugeot 308 SW is a super all-rounder that is surprisingly economical to run and buy. Inside it is impressively spaciousness with an enormous boot that will swallow everything from Golf Clubs to family holiday luggage. Good looking, practical and fun to drive the 308SW is one of the most stylish estates around.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BMW 2 series<\/strong>
\nThe Audi A3 Cabriolet is luxurious, economical and fast but the BMW 2 series coupe rekindled my love of rear wheel drive coupes and is a return to what BMW do best. It is beautiful to drive, economical to run and comes with a sufficient dash of practicality for everyday driving.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BMW i8<\/strong>
\nThe 2014 BMW i8 is the epitome of a supercar and while it is clearly not for everyone it is a futuristic car packed with cutting edge technology that is destined to be the gene-pool from which all future cars draw inspiration from. At a time when everyone seems to be clamouring for lower emissions and more efficiency, BMW’s i division have delivered a car that is living proof that there is still a sustainable and fun-to-drive future for the sports supercar.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Citroen C4 Cactus<\/strong>
\nWith concept car styling the Cactus is a fun and zany alternative to the traditional compact hatchback with innovative and functional airbumps, split headlights and a funky interior. It is a bold response to the changing needs of families. The Cactus is cheap to run, easy to drive and it is my car of the year for 2014.<\/p>\n
