The start of a\u00a0new year\u00a0may be a good time to make resolutions, but if you are after a car bargain the end of the year is the best time to get a great deal on a new or nearly new car.<\/p>\n

So while many new car buyers relish the idea of a 151 registration plate for those who are prepared to settle for a 142 or 141, the savings can be significant.<\/p>\n

There are hidden gems in showrooms around the country.\u00a0 A number of cars in any dealership will have been registered as demonstration models or will have been pre registered. If you decide to opt for one of these you won\u2019t have choice in terms of the spec and options as the car will already be in stock but you can avail of some great discounts and avoid that long waiting period for your new car. \u00a0Discounts on pre-registered cars can vary wildly so it pays to shop around but to save you some time we’ve scoured the country for some of the best deals around and here is our pick of the bunch.<\/p>\n

Those in the market for a small car could save nearly \u20ac3,000 on a new 142 Fiesta from Rialto Motors, Dublin. They have an ex demo model for sale at \u20ac15,250, the original list price was \u20ac18,200. Tullamore Nissan still have a selection of 2014 ex-Fleet cars, including a Micra 1.2 \u20ac16,595 now only \u20ac12,595 and a 1.5 Diesel SV Note with a list price of\u00a0 \u20ac20,995, now available for\u00a0 \u20ac16,995. Buyers in Donegal may be tempted by an ex Demo 142 Toyota Yaris 1 litre, Luna grade from Kelly\u2019s Toyota for \u20ac15,000 which is almost \u20ac2,500 off the list price.<\/p>\n

But if it is style you are after in the South-West, Billy Naughtons, in Tralee have a 141 1.6 Diesel DS3 in Whisper Purple Colour and Dstyle trim that\u00a0 could be yours for \u20ac18,950; a saving of \u20ac2,500 on \u00a0the list price.<\/p>\n

For the compact family car buyer who likes to stand out from the crowd, Highland Motors are offering a 142 Citroen C4 Cactus in \u201cHello Yellow\u201d with Feel trim and powered by a 1.2 Petrol engine for \u20ac18,995 which represents a saving of over \u20ac700. Other good small family car deals include a saving of \u20ac1,500 on a Ford Focus 141 Edition from Smiths of Drogheda. Priced at \u20ac19,950 it comes well equipped with 16\u201d alloy wheels, Ford SYNC, Air Conditioning, and a leather trim 4 spoke steering wheel. A 141 registered Ford Focus is also on sale in Rialto Motors for \u20ac19,950, over \u20ac4,500 less than the original list price.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Morrison MINI in Tipperary have five 151 three door MINI Hatches with an additional \u20ac1000 off for a limited period but\u00a0 you need to be fast as the offer only applies to\u00a0 orders received by December 31st<\/sup> 2014.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking for something a little sporty consider the sleek and low slung Hyundai Veloster. Hutton and Meade have three 132 registered models for sale at \u20ac15,777; the original list price was \u20ac24,995.<\/p>\n

For an executive car without the premium price tag, Gowan Motors have an ex hire drive Peugeot 508 Active 1.6 diesel with a list price of \u20ac28,265 now on offer as a cash purchase for \u20ac22,000 representing a saving of \u20ac6,265.<\/p>\n

Finally, if it is space you need, there are some great deals around on large family cars. Kelly\u2019s Toyota in Donegal have a 141 Demo Toyota Rav 2.0 D4D with 19,000 Kms on the clock. Priced at \u20ac29,500 this is a saving of \u20ac4,575 on the original price. \u00a0For Dublin buyers an ex hire drive Opel Mokka SC 1.7 diesel could be yours reduced from \u20ac25,890 to \u20ac20,800 at Gowan Motors.<\/p>\n

Remember if you do opt for a pre registered car you will benefit from immediate \u00a0delivery and substantial discounts but your car is technically a \u201cused\u201d car and this could affect the resale value. Demo cars are likely to have more miles on the clock than a lot of other pre-registered cars so there may be room for even more haggling on the price.
\nApart from demo models, there are also savings to be made when manufacturers are replacing an old model.<\/p>\n

Opel has just launched a brand new Corsa, Ford the new Mondeo; while Volkswagen’s new Passat will be in showrooms very soon and Mazda’s new 2 is due early next year. Anyone in the market for these models should have even more room for manoeuvre.<\/p>\n

Finally there are also reductions on brand new models. The New VW Golf has a new entry-price, now from just \u20ac19,995 which is a \u20ac400 price reduction from the 2014 model. The 300bhp Golf R has been reduced in price by \u20ac9,950 to \u20ac42,445 while the new Touareg that goes on sale in January is now priced from \u20ac69,675 for the 204bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel, which is a price drop over the outgoing model.<\/p>\n

For 2015 Mazda have reduced the price on the new Mazda CX-5 by \u20ac1,450 and the Mazda6 by \u20ac1,000. They are also offering a free sat nav or a \u20ac500 upgrade voucher on cars ordered by 31st<\/sup> Jan while Kia are offering a \u20ac400 voucher for SuperValu when you place a \u20ac400 deposit on a 151 Kia.<\/p>\n

If you’re in the market for a car this is the best time to get a deal as\u00a0 showrooms are crammed with nearly-new vehicles with low mileage, some being offered at substantial discounts. Take a trip to your local car dealers and shop around – you might be pleasantly surprised at what deals they can do for you.<\/p>\n
