Photographer and blogger Val Robus recalls her first car What was your first car and why did you buy it? My first car was a Mini – think Mr. Bean’s car and you’ve got the idea. I was 17 when I bought it and learned how to drive in it. How did you come by the vehicle? My driving instructor recommended it to me. What do you remember about it? It was a heap! It was held together with fiberglass and tinfoil. Would you describe yourself as a car enthusiast? Yes I suppose I am. I’m particularly interested in electric cars. How did it change your life? I used to have to get two buses to work and home again so it gave me freedom, saved me time, and I loved being on the road. What was the longest trip you took in the car? In this particular car I didn’t go far at all but with my next car I was all over the place, it was much better except for a leaking sunroof. How reliable was it? The mini wasn’t at all reliable, every time I went around a corner something dropped off it. What was your best memory or most memorable moment in the car? Passing my test and going out on my own in it. What was your worst memory associated with the car? The exhaust dropping off in the middle of a roundabout and me having to get out, dodge the traffic and rescue it! How long did you keep your first car, and why did you decide to get rid of it for another? I only had it for around 6 months, I’d had enough of getting it fixed. Which car do you most regret selling? I had a little green Hyundai Getz once, it had peeling paint and wasn’t pretty at all but I had the best adventures in it. What is your dream car, money no object? I like the Toyota Yaris Hybrid but I’d love a long range electric car. Possibly a Kona but I really like the Renault Zoe, they are lovely cars to drive.   Val Robus 2nd February...
