Putting the sparkle back in your engine

tpc_mainAn open road and a growling V8 engine may be at the root of many supercar dreams but like any dream it won’t last forever and what can be done once the magic has faded and that big block is only fit for the scrapheap asks Suzanne Keane

Jeff Bibby of Tallaght Powder Coating came across a Ford Windsor V8 engine which had seen better days while looking for something a little different for a display stand at a show. The once powerful lump was in a pitiful state and would have been left behind by most people but Jeff dragged the engine back to his workshop for a little TLC.

While it was never going to return to the road after dipping and stripping in a chemical bath the V8 block was slowly gaining a new purpose in life. The next step was sandblasting followed by some repair welds and a coat of primer. The engine really began to shine (literally) when the chrome Powdercoating finish was applied.

A gleaming engine may look good but when it’s not actually attached to a car it won’t have much use so Jeff then used the pistons as arms and placed a 6mm toughened glass slab on top with some LEDs fitted for that added sparkle!

While this table may have been a one-off creation the level of interest shown now means that the team at Tallaght Powder Coating are taking orders for similar items of furniture or decorations such as piston clocks, crankshaft lamps or any other customised item you can think of!
