Holiday Car Hire – 10 Money Saving Tips

rental

Planning to hire a car for your holiday abroad? We have ten money saving tips

  1. Try and book car hire before you leave but remember prices quoted online often include only the basics
  2. Read the small print – Know what is covered by your insurance and what is left out. It’s also vital to know the excess amount that could be charged to your credit card in case of an accident or damage.
  3. Opting for a small car because it is cheaper may not be the best idea in the long run. There is no point discovering at the airport that it’s too small for your luggage and passengers, so make sure you are hiring the right size car for your needs.
  4. Bring your own Sat Nav, most companies charge more to hire one than it would be to buy a new one.
  5. Check the price of any extras you might need: child seat, additional driver, extra insurance and so on.
  6. Do you return the car with a full or empty tank?  Review the fuel policy before confirming the booking
  7. Make sure there are no restrictions on mileage.
  8. Have a good look around the car before you set off and point out any damage or marks at the beginning of the rental and do the same when you return the car. Take photos if possible particularly when you return the car.
  9. Ensure you park the car somewhere secure and in a well-lit location, making sure all valuables are hidden from view. You will be charged for damage caused to the vehicle even if you don’t do it personally.
  10. Remember to bring your mobile phone and car charger in case of an emergency.
