Smart is Reaching for the Stars

The smart forstars is immediately recognisable as a member of the smart family

Concept cars are all about pushing boundaries and showcasing new and radical designs. In keeping with this Smart are to set to unveil their ForStars at the Paris Motor Show next week.

Part Electric SUV, part Mobile cinema, the Smart ForStars will feature a unique drive-in-cinema experience. Sporting an integrated projector the smart ForStars can transform any plain wall into an animated open-air cinema. The projector connects to a smart phone via Bluetooth with additional loudspeakers in the ventilation openings behind the doors.

Designed as a city car for the urban market, the electrically driven smart ForStars has enough room for two people and decent luggage space. Inside it is instantly recognizable as a Smart but has some interesting touches. In place of a conventional rear-view mirror it features a Smartphone accommodated in a holder at the top of the windscreen. The driver can see what is happening on the road behind with the help of an integrated video camera.

Beneath the kooky exterior is a 60 kW electric motor and 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This allows you drive to a top speed of about 130 kph with a total driving range of about 145 kms. If Smart does build a production version, and this is never certain with concepts, the ForStars would compete the Mini Countryman, Nissan Juke, and theFiat 500L .
