Car Chat with Lorraine Keane

We catch up with Lorraine Keane, broadcaster,  journalist and  Renault Ambassador

What was your first car and why did you buy it?
A Peugeot 106. It was my pride and joy. I bought it because it looked nice and it was French. I’ve always thought the French do ‘style’ better than anyone. It was bright blue with denim seats and blue dials on the dash board. I was 21 and working in AA Roadwatch and thought the world was my oyster.

What did you pay for it?
Almost a full year’s salary at the time – around 7k – luckily I also had two part-time jobs.

How did it change your life?
It gave me independence. I felt so grown up. I have always loved driving and loved having my own car.

What was your best memory or most memorable moment in the car?
Driving to my parents’ house after I bought it. I remember them being very proud of me.

What was your worst memory associated with the car?
Saying goodbye to it. There were three people interested in it and I actually sold it for a little less to a young girl because that is all she had and I knew she loved it. I was happier knowing she would look after it like I did.

What’s your current car?
The new Renault Captur, I’m the latest brand ambassador for Renault Ireland, and I love it! It’s a burnt orange colour so really stands out…

Any funky features?
Lots….It has a media nav on the dash board where I can access my emails, avail of maps and sat nav, USB for my phone and chose all my favourite music on my ipod. The practical side of me – as a mum of two and dog lover – loves the removable seat covers that zip off/zip on. No more stains or smells!

What is your dream car?
One that can make me a skinny latte on the run….I live in hope!

What do you never leave home without?
My phone. Hands free bluetooth is one of the best standard extras in my Captur.

Who would be your dream passenger?
Well I have already had Paul Newman in the passenger – and driver’s seat – so that’s hard to beat. Although I must say I preferred when I was at the wheel. At 78, that man was a maniac on wheels!
