RSA Brings Road Safety and FlineBox Breathalysers to Electric Picnic 2025

The best way to end a festival is getting home safely.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is back at Stradbally this weekend (29–31 August) as the official road safety partner of Ireland’s biggest festival.

Meet the FlineBox – Your Festival Reality Check

Ever wondered if “just one more pint” might push you over the limit? The RSA has you covered. The FlineBox is a self-service breathalyser powered by the same Dräger sensor technology used by An Garda Síochána. It gives you clear, no-nonsense results before you even think about turning the key in the ignition:

  • No alcohol → Safe to drive

  • Alcohol present but under the limit → Driving not recommended

  • High alcohol → Over the legal limit. Do. Not. Drive.

You’ll find FlineBoxes in the Campervan, Red and Yellow car parks, running all weekend and even into Monday morning — because let’s face it, the “morning after” is when bad decisions can creep in.

Road Safety Goes Live on RTÉ 2FM

To spread the word even further, the RSA is teaming up with RTÉ 2FM. Presenters will be hyping the FlineBox and urging listeners to plan ahead, test themselves, and never guess when it comes to drink driving.

Sam Waide, Chief Executive of the RSA, sums it up:

“Electric Picnic is a celebration of music and community – and we want everyone to enjoy it and get home safely. Tools like the FlineBox empower people to make smarter choices about drink driving. Every journey matters – yours, and everyone else’s on the road.”

Festival Survival Tips

The RSA is also sharing some essential reminders for the road home:

  • Look out for vulnerable road users – especially at night.

  • Don’t underestimate the morning after – alcohol can stay in your system long after sunrise.

  • Manage fatigue – stop, sip, sleep if you’re flagging.

Meanwhile, An Garda Síochána is urging festivalgoers to go by public transport where possible, and if you’re driving, follow the official Garda traffic plan at Garda.ie (not just your sat-nav).

Safety Is the Headliner

With the RSA, Gardaí, festival organisers and fans pulling together, the goal is simple: everyone gets to Electric Picnic safely — and everyone gets home safely too.

Because the music might stop on Sunday night, but the road home is still part of the journey.
