What’s new in Child Car Seats in Autumn 2019

Is it time to upgrade your child’s car seat? Suzanne Keane previews what new for Autumn 2019

Axkid are well known for their innovative rear-facing seats with coveted Swedish Plus testing but parents of older children who have outgrown their Minikid will be delighted to hear about the new Axkid Bigkid. This high back booster offers the same level of quality as you’d expect from any Axkid product and has 3 recline positions but is aimed at children up to 36kg. It’s expected that only the ISOfix version of this high back booster will be available in Ireland and the UK (however belted version is being manufactured for other markets) and the RRP is €189.99.

The Axkid Modukid Infant seat (RRP €199.00) is also expected later this month and will use the same seat base as the Modukid.

Britax have again updated the popular swivel i-size Dualfix and this time it’s called the DUALFIX2 R but still fits children up to 18kg in a rear facing position and rotates for ease of use with multiple recline positions. RRP on this seat is €349.99

Nachfolger are following up the success of the ADAC approved HY5 with the HY5.1TT (RRP €349.00). This is a slightly smaller inflatable child seat, suitable up to 18KG and just as ideal for travel (we tested the HY5 earlier this year). The HY5 is also getting a 2020 upgrade (RRP €299.00) with new chemically tested seat covers.

For older frequent flyers the HYLife and HYLife+ (RRP €199.00 – €299.00) are being launched in September 2020 with a new self-inflatable technology in high back booster guise for children up to the age of 12.

Silver Cross have released a new range of seats and the diamond quilted stitching on the natural bamboo fabrics really gives them that luxurious touch! The Dream is an infant seat (RRP €239.00) which comes with a separate i-size base (€225.00) and is suitable for babies up to 13KG or from 40-85cm.

The Silver Cross Motion i-size is suitable for slightly older toddlers and children and allows them to rear face up to 18kg, or 105cm. The swivel function makes it a little easier to strap your child in before they can climb in by themselves! RRP for the Motion is €450.00.

For older kids who can no longer rearface the Silver Cross Discover offers expanding side impact protection to adjust as your child grows and is made from the same natural bamboo fabric as the other seats in the range with ISOfix connectors to make installation simple. RRP for the Discover is €199.00.
